Research conducted by SHIP ( Safe Home Income Plans) is welcomed by Lib Dems
March 11th, 2010Comments today from Andrea Rozario the director general of Safe Home Income Plans – SHIP, suggest that the Liberal Democrat’s findings on the funding of social care for pensioners highlights a major problem on how their social care will be funded. She commented “The Liberal Democrats have highlighted a major issue facing many pensioners: how they will fund their social care. The use of housing equity poses a real possible solution to this complex problem”.
When interviewed Andrea Rozario also noted that “Equity release could not only help to fund private insurance schemes as proposed by the Conservatives, but could also provide a wider choice of care options all-round. Delivering a simple effective method by which those who find themselves needing care in the home for example, could access the equity tied up in their homes to pay for this care, plans offered by SHIP members would also ensure safeguards and rights to these consumers to offer them further peace of mind”.
With Equity Release Schemes still a widely misunderstood financial product, it is only by a wider cooperation between lenders, advisers, trade bodies, and those in politics educating the consumer and thereby removing the stigmatism, that a proper debate can be had about the role of equity release as a financial solution in retirement, and where it could help with the very real care funding crisis the country faces.
